Derwin James - Chargers signing 5-year, $85.6 million extension

Derwin Jim has signed a $46.532 million extension with Chargers, making him the highest-paid safety ever in NFL history.

The Chargers and James agreed on a multi-year contract extension, according to a person with direct knowledge of the situation.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.

Rapoport reports that James' new deal will average $19.1million per year and include a record-breaking $42million in guaranteed money.

Rapoport also reports that James will make $29 million in the first year under the new contract. This is a record.
